As the new school year gets into full swing, Lawrence High School says a warm welcome back to students and families, and has enjoyed getting to know new faces while catching up with familiar ones. If you missed the first newsletter back in August, it's still available and includes helpful start of year information, like school policy updates, counselor assignments, and how to add funds to your child's lunch account.
The school store is reopening on Wednesday, September 16th, during both lunch periods, and will be open daily after that for anyone looking to grab some Lawrence gear. New this year is a Lawrence shield logo quarter zip. Right now the store accepts cash or check, with hopes to add credit cards by the end of the month. Get ready for the fall picnic this Friday, September 18th. Students will eat during their regular lunch period and then head to the stadium turf field during their resource period for music, lawn games like cornhole, spike ball, and can jam, and a chance to visit club and activity tables.
Please note that school will be closed Monday, September 21st, in observance of Yom Kippur, and the school extends wishes for a blessed, peaceful, and meaningful holiday to all who observe.
Seniors, mark your calendars. Tuesday, September 22nd is the final day to have senior portraits taken, with sessions held in the high school auditorium. Students with a scheduled session should get permission from their teacher to leave class at their assigned time, then create a SmartPass to the auditorium. Save the date for homecoming. This year's dance is Saturday, October 3rd, at the German American Society, and the theme is Masquerade. Permission slips and information packets have been emailed to all students and are also available in the main office. Ticket sales begin September 22nd during both lunch periods. Seniors only can buy tickets September 22nd in the seven hundred hall by the pool, and all grades can buy September 23rd and September 25th in the three hundred hall outside room three oh one. Students should bring a completed permission slip, cash, and their school ID. Homecoming court nominations open September 22nd at seven forty in the morning, so families should watch for an email with more details.
Parents and guardians are invited to Back to School Night on Thursday, September 24th. Doors open at six thirty in the evening for a chance to visit with parent organizations, with the program beginning promptly at seven o'clock and wrapping up by nine o'clock. Peer leaders will be stationed throughout the halls to help guide guests, and families are encouraged to check their child's schedule in Genesis ahead of time.
Starting September 24th, the late bus will run on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Students who want to ride must sign up in Room three nineteen by twelve forty five in the afternoon on the day they plan to ride.
Picture Days for ninth, tenth, and eleventh graders are set for Tuesday, September 29th, and Wednesday, September 30th, with students brought to the auditorium by their physical education and health teacher during a scheduled class period. Faculty and staff can also have photos taken those two days, which is required if they'd like to be included in this year's yearbook. A picture retake day is planned for Tuesday, October 27th.
For attendance, families can call extension five five one four, or six zero nine, six seven one, five five one four directly, or simply log an absence through the Genesis Parent Portal by clicking Attendance, then Notify our Office, and following the prompts.

In parent organization news, the Parent Teacher Organization serving Lawrence Middle School and Lawrence High School has launched a brand new website to help families stay up to date on meetings, fundraisers, and other events. Questions can be directed to L M S L H S P T O at gmail dot com. The Parent Teacher Organization is also looking for vendors for its upcoming craft fair in November, so if you make handmade goods, artwork, tasty treats, or other unique items, keep an eye out for the vendor flyer to register.
There's a lot happening on the fundraising front too. The Class of twenty twenty seven is collecting new or gently used clothing, shoes, bags, and accessories, in all sizes from infant to adult, for its upcoming fall thrift shop, with donations welcome in the school entrance lobby. The Parent Teacher Organization's first Dine to Donate fundraiser is happening at Jersey Mike's in the Lawrence Shopping Center on September 17th, and a portion of proceeds will go toward the schools. Families can also get a jump start on next spring's garden through the Parent Teacher Organization's Give and Garden bulb fundraiser.
The football team and cheerleading squads are selling Pink Out shirts in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October. Proceeds go directly to members of the Lawrence community battling breast cancer, providing cards, flowers, and local grocery gift cards. Shirts can be ordered through September 26th, and the Pink Out game against Steinert is October 23rd. Supporters can also purchase a football program discount card for ten dollars, good at local businesses including Caesar's Bagels, Fedelo's, Amalfi's, MeatHeadz, Jersey Mike's, Dunkin, The Dog Spot, and Buffalo Wild Wings, with proceeds helping fund new equipment and other team resources.
Student Council's annual Laps for a Cause fundraiser is set for Saturday, October 24th, on the high school track from eleven in the morning to two in the afternoon, with proceeds supporting breast cancer research.
And for a family friendly community event, HomeFront is hosting its annual Halloween five K run, one mile walk, and preschooler pumpkin dash on Sunday, October 25th, at five oh two Carnegie Center in Princeton. Registration is forty dollars for the five K, twenty five dollars for the one mile walk, and ten dollars for the preschooler dash, with prices going up after October 17th, so early sign up is encouraged. Teachers, students, and staff are welcome to join or support the school's team.
Know a student, teacher, or staff member who deserves a little extra recognition? Nominations for the Brag Bag can be sent to K roche at L T P S dot org. They're looking for unique achievements, exciting news, talent highlights, and even random acts of kindness, with a picture included if possible.
And for a little fun this month, here are a few words to know. In French, la rentrΓ©e captures that unique September feeling of returning to work, school, and daily routines after summer break. In Greek, psithurism describes the sound of leaves rustling in the wind. And in Japanese, kouyou refers to the changing of leaves into their brilliant fall colors.
