Lawrence High School had a wonderful Back to School Night last week, and the staff enjoyed getting to see so many families as the school year kicks off. If you weren't able to join, a recording of the welcome video is available, and families are encouraged to reach out to their child's teachers by email with any questions or concerns.
This week is homecoming Spirit Week at Lawrence High School, running from September 28th through October 2nd, with themed dress up days for students to earn points for their class. On Friday, the school will follow a modified schedule to make room for the homecoming pep rally, where students will meet this year's homecoming court. The homecoming royalty will be crowned at halftime of the football game against Kipp Cooper Norcross Academy. Picture Days for underclassmen in grades nine, ten, and eleven are Tuesday, September 29th, and Wednesday, September 30th. Students will be brought to the auditorium by their Physical Education and Health teacher during their assigned class period. For anyone who needs a retake, Picture Retake Day is Tuesday, October 27th.
The homecoming dance is this Saturday, October 3rd, at the German American Society. Students need to bring both their ticket and their school identification to get in, and as a reminder, tickets are non-transferable and non-refundable.
Students will have an early dismissal on Wednesday, October 14th, which is a Professional Development Day for staff.
The athletic office is looking for lifeguards to work home Lawrence High School swim meets this winter. Students interested must be Red Cross Lifeguard certified, and can stop by the athletic office to apply.
The National Honor Society's peer to peer tutoring program, Cardinal Nest Tutoring, starts up on Wednesday, September 30th. It meets every Wednesday during Resource periods one and two in the Library Conference Room, and National Honor Society tutors provide free tutoring in all major content areas. Language support is also available for English Language Learner students, and families who could use that support can reach out to Mrs. McSheene. Students must have a SmartPass to attend, which resource or content area teachers can provide ahead of time, and everyone should check in with their resource period teacher first for attendance.
For students who need to stay after school, the late bus runs on Tuesdays and Thursdays and leaves at four p.m. Students must sign up in Room three nineteen by twelve forty-five p.m. on the day they want to ride.
Families and students can also check out The Cardinal Connection, the guidance office's monthly publication with updates from the counseling and student services departments. The school year's first edition is available now.
Turning to parent organizations, the Lawrence Middle School and Lawrence High School Parent Teacher Organization will hold its first meeting of the school year on Tuesday, October 13th, at seven p.m. in the Lawrence High School library. The Parent Teacher Organization is also seeking vendors for its upcoming craft fair in November. If you have handmade goods, artwork, tasty bites, or other unique finds you'd like to sell, check the show notes for the vendor flyer and registration link.
There are several fundraisers happening around the district. The class of twenty twenty eight will hold a bake sale during the homecoming football game this Friday, October 2nd, with items priced between one and five dollars. Questions can go to cmendicino at L T P S dot org.
After a successful first Fall Thrift Shop last weekend, there's one more chance to shop on Saturday, October 10th. Everything is priced between one and five dollars, and from two to three p.m., guests can fill a bag for just ten dollars.
The Parent Teacher Organization's Give and Garden bulb fundraiser is also underway, giving families a jumpstart on their spring garden while supporting the school. That sale wraps up this Saturday, October 3rd.
And save the date for Student Council's annual Laps for a Cause fundraiser on Saturday, October 24th, from eleven a.m. to two p.m. on the Lawrence High School track. All proceeds support breast cancer research, with more details to come.
Outside of school events, HomeFront is hosting its annual Halloween five K run, one mile walk, and Preschooler Pumpkin Dash on Sunday, October 25th, at five oh two Carnegie Center in Princeton. Every step supports local kids impacted by poverty, housing instability, and homelessness. Registration is forty dollars for the five K, twenty five dollars for the one mile walk, and ten dollars for the preschooler dash, with prices going up after October 17th, so early sign up is encouraged. Teachers, students, and staff can also join or support the Lawrence team.
In this edition's Brag Bag, congratulations are in order for Lieutenant Colonel Steve Austin, the School Resource Officer at Lawrence High School, who was awarded the Bronze Star Medal on September 12th, twenty twenty six, at the Forty Second Regional Support Group's Welcome Home ceremony in Princeton, New Jersey. The citation recognized his exceptionally meritorious service, steadfast leadership, and unwavering dedication while supporting Operation Inherent Resolve. Congratulations, Lieutenant Colonel Austin, and thank you for all you do for our students and our school community.
